Note: On July 15th, this link should be live to download the new NX-D software. Unfortunately I don't see this new freedom lessening the requests I get to edit everyone's photos after the holidays. Nikon Capture and View NX Discuss the use and issues with Nikon Raw Processing software, Capture NX in this forum. And the changes to the product should naturally be for the better.Īlas, now my family members can enjoy a perfectly useable professional photo editor for RAW files at no cost. It also adds support for Nikon D3500 DSLR and the Nikon Coolpix P1000 superzoom bridge camera. While I don't think that is absolutely necessary any longer, it is nice to know that a product that was probably priced above its value and real-world usefulness will now be a free perk available to everyone. As well as Color Control Points the latest version of Capture NX-D features the latest Picture Control for the Nikon Z7, so you can quickly tweak that camera’s colors and tones in post-production. I do find that if I need more work on things like highlights recovery or localised editing at any time Adobe is much better than NX-D. I use it with Photoshop CC (includes Lightroom). I have to export as a JPG then open JPG in SEP2. I find it wont open RAW conversions w/ SilverEfexPro2 to finish editing like it did in NX-D. In fact, there was a point at which I would even pull in all new photos and save them as DNGs within Capture NX-2 just to have a better "starting point" with my editing. NX-D renders all the Nikon settings as intended and does as youd expect a very good job. Im so used to NX-D Ill have to get used to where everything is. While some have argued over the usefulness of Nikon's software, there was a point at which Lightroom's ability to render the colors in NEFs wasn't as good as it is today and simply didn't emulate Nikon's in-house processing that led to what you'd see on the back of your camera. Capture NX-D is a great RAW converter for Nikon NEFs, no matter how you feel about its in-sufficiency for everything else. To be more specific, this is the full version of Nikon's software that will be going free, enabling full editing capabilities for Nikon's RAW NEF files (View NX has always been free to simply view NEF files).
